100% Coconut Oil Soap Recipe
BeginnerA hard, bubbly bar that lathers in any water including salt water. Very cleansing, so a high superfat is essential to keep it from being too stripping.
Load this recipe into the calculator
The calculator works out the lye and water for your batch size, lye concentration, and superfat. Those amounts are not printed here on purpose: they change with every one of those settings.
Oil blend
| Oil | Percent of oils | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Coconut Oil (76Β°) | 100% | Hard oil |
| Superfat | 20% | Oil left unsaponified for mildness |
Percentages are by weight of the total oils. Each oil links to its reference page with SAP value, fatty acid profile, and substitutes.
Predicted bar properties
Predicted from the fatty acid profile of the oils, the same way the calculator scores a recipe. The right-hand figures are the usual cold process ranges; green bars fall inside them.
Reading the numbers
- β’Cleansing comes out at 67, above the usual 12 to 22 range. That is why this template carries a 20% superfat: the extra unsaponified oil offsets a stripping lather.
- β’Hardness is 79, above the 29 to 54 range, so the bar sets up fast and should be cut early.
- β’Conditioning is 10, on the low side, which fits a utility bar better than a face bar.
Making it
Traces fast. Unmold in 12-24 hours. Cure 4 weeks. Works in hard water and salt water. Great as a laundry or dish soap at lower superfat (0-3%).
