π§ͺ Masterbatch Calculator
Pre-mix and store lye solutions for faster, more consistent soapmaking. Calculate exact amounts for your masterbatch and how much to use per recipe.
β οΈ SAFETY WARNING
- β’ Always add lye to water, NEVER water to lye - can cause violent reaction
- β’ Wear safety goggles, gloves, and long sleeves when handling lye
- β’ Work in a well-ventilated area - lye solution releases fumes
- β’ Solution will heat to 200Β°F+ (93Β°C+) - let cool before storing
- β’ Keep vinegar nearby for skin contact (not splashes - flush with water first)

π How to Make
- 1Prepare your workspace: Put on safety gear (goggles, gloves, long sleeves). Work in a well-ventilated area or outdoors.
- 2Measure water: Pour 670.0 g of distilled water into a heat-safe HDPE container.
- 3Add lye SLOWLY: Gradually add 330.0 g of NaOH to the water, stirring continuously. Add in small amounts.
- 4Stir until dissolved: Keep stirring until all lye is completely dissolved. Solution will heat up significantly and may fume.
- 5Cool down: Let the solution cool to room temperature before capping. This can take several hours.
- 6Label and store: Label with: NaOH 33%, date made, and total weight. Store sealed in a cool, dark place.
π¦ Storage Tips
- β’Store in HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) containers only
- β’Label clearly with concentration, lye type, and date made
- β’Keep in a cool, dark place away from children and pets
- β’Lye solution remains caustic indefinitely - always handle with care
- β’Use within 6-12 months for best consistency
- β’Never store in glass - can shatter if solution heats up
- β’Never store in aluminum - reacts with lye
