Salt Bar Soap Recipe
IntermediateA hard, long-lasting bar with sea salt added at trace. High coconut oil content compensates for salt reducing lather. Feels like a spa treatment.

The calculator works out the lye and water for your batch size, lye concentration, and superfat. Those amounts are not printed here on purpose: they change with every one of those settings.
Oil blend
| Oil | Percent of oils | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Coconut Oil (76Β°) | 80% | Hard oil |
| Olive Oil | 10% | Soft oil |
| Castor Oil | 5% | Soft oil |
| Shea Butter | 5% | Hard oil |
| Superfat | 20% | Oil left unsaponified for mildness |
Percentages are by weight of the total oils. Each oil links to its reference page with SAP value, fatty acid profile, and substitutes.
Predicted bar properties
Predicted from the fatty acid profile of the oils, the same way the calculator scores a recipe. The right-hand figures are the usual cold process ranges; green bars fall inside them.
Reading the numbers
- β’Cleansing comes out at 54, above the usual 12 to 22 range. That is why this template carries a 20% superfat: the extra unsaponified oil offsets a stripping lather.
- β’Hardness is 67, above the 29 to 54 range, so the bar sets up fast and should be cut early.
- β’Conditioning is 19, on the low side, which fits a utility bar better than a face bar.
Making it
Add fine sea salt at thin trace (50-100% of oil weight). Cut early as it hardens fast. Cure 4-6 weeks. High superfat needed because coconut at 80% would otherwise be very stripping.
